If you are looking to buy a new washing machine one of the most important decisions you’ll have to make is whether it is a front or top loading one. Of course, buying a washing machine isn’t the most exciting prospect for most people but it is a piece of equipment that we use almost everyday so making the right decision is important!
The front loading washing machines are the most common if you are looking for an integrated washing machine. This is because – as the name suggests you load them from the front and hence a cupboard door is easy to install to hide them. They are generally cheaper than their top loading cousins but they have a longer spin cycle so aren’t the best if you are stuck for time. However they do use less energy than top loading ones so are more economical.
Top loading ones load from above. They don’t work in the same way as front loading machines so are more complicated – and hence can be more likely to break. They are also more expensive than front loading although it does of course depend on which model you buy. If you wash a lot of large items these can tend to go to the top and don’t get washed as well as they would in a front loading where the items are swirled around using gravity.
Take your time when buying a washing machine – you don’t want to get home and find you chose the wrong one!
