Card making is a really enjoyable hobby which lots of people are turning to.
Some people make cards just for their personal use, sending them to family and friends, whilst others have realised that it is an enjoyable and successful way to raise money for their favourite charity. Once proficient, many card makers have found that selling their cards helps fund further investment in their hobby.
When starting out card making a quick and easy way to get sentiments such as “Get Well Soon”, or “Happy Birthday”, onto your cards, is to use Peel-Off Stickers.
These come in small sheets which have a number of sentiments printed on them. They are affordable and readily available at most craft outlets, or through suppliers on the internet. The sentiments can come in a variety of colours, but the most popular ones tend to be either silver or gold.
The problem a lot of inexperienced card makers have when using peel offs is that no matter how hard they try they cannot get the sentiments straight on the cards. This can be so disheartening when a lot of time and effort has gone into producing a beautifully designed card, only for it to be let down by a crooked sentiment!
However there is an easy little trick for sorting this out in 7 easy steps:
1) Get a roll of decorator’s masking tape (You may already have some of this lying around in your house).
2) Tear off a strip long enough to cover the words on the peel off sheet which you want to use on your card.
3) Quickly stick the strip on and off your jumper a couple of times to make it a little less sticky.
4) Press it down firmly over the words you want to use – making sure it does not overlap onto any other words.
5) Carefully lift the tape away from the sheet of peel offs – it should pull your required words away with it exactly as they were on the sheet -straight!
6) Position the tape where you want the words to go on your card and press down quite firmly. Run the pad of your finger over the tape.
7) Gently and slowly start to pull the masking tape away from the card. The peel off sentiment should then stay fixed to the card in the correct position.
Before you pull the whole piece of tape off, just make sure that the first letter is stuck to the card. If it starts to lift with the tape then press the tape down again and again run your finger pad firmly over the top of the tape to make the letters below adhere to the card.
When you write this down it sounds complicated but it is really is quite simple. However I suggest you practise on a piece of scrap first to make sure you have got the hang of it.
Note: The masking tape will not mark your card but may tear hand made papers.
