As a man among men

As a strength and kindness

As goodness, honesty

As sensitive and just

Being gentle and firm

Being faithful in love

Yes, I believe in you!

You’re so rare among men!

Both in your mind and will

You exceed in all skill

Your body is so strong

Feelings beneficent

In your work, so expert

Yes, I believe in you!

In your talents so keen

Your heart so generous

With your love of knowledge

In your search for the truth

With fine intuition

With your altruism

Yes I believe in you!

I wish you Wealth, Success

And your heart’s happiness

These in time to be yours

I know you are correct

Your culture not neglect

You know what to select

I believe in You…

I LOVE AUSTRALIA

Heat haze and long, grey horizons stretched far

Chill nights ablaze with a myriad star

Stirred by emotions of wonder and love

I embrace both worlds of earth and above

South, kookaburras with their gurgled mirth

North, curlews to weird strangled cry give birth

East, they awake to sunrise over sea

In West, sun rises over land and lea

Sculptured continent surrounded by blue

Ancient land, includes Tasmania, too

Dryness of deserts and the flood of plain

Both experienced and both bring man pain

Extremes test the mettle of men and beasts

Famines are well known, and so are the feasts

We’ve strange platypus, emu, kangaroo

Cassowary, wallaby, wombat, too

The Southern Cross glints in our skies at night

Once guided our sailors- glad of the sight

Our country is vast with more brown than green

And in grey cities more people are seen

But in many a heart is nurtured the dream

Of retiring to simple rural scene

Seeking to live in health to full measure

Making the most of fortunes we treasure

Here in this beautiful country of ours

With natural wonders of mountains, flowers

Of oceans and lakes and valleys and plain

Living free of war and battle’s blood stain

Future is free- a new path to follow

Value today, trust fortune’s tomorrow

Our freedom hard gained by statesmen through years

Not to be wasted by blind eyes, deaf ears

Freedom’s rare fortune is ours on this earth

Effort and courage help keep all its worth

Careful husbandry of earth and of child

Culture, dreams , visions and new schemes trialled.

Australian days – delight in the sun

And the starry skies when night has begun

Stirred by my love of the earth and the sky

I offer my talents of brain and eye..

To my country, dear homeland of which I’m a part

It’s forever enshrined deep and true in my heart.

………………

IN A CHINESE MOOD

Lacy white clouds slip past vision

Lazily…

Blue skies welcome and comfort my soul

Protectively…

Wrens dart, swift, with flashes of blue

Brilliantly…

Lying on the green, soft grass, I watch

Contentedly…

INDIA SEDUCES

So kindly the little lady in the red sari leads me

To my guest resting place, close to the lovely inner courtyard

Where the family and friends, showing naive childlike attention

Observe curiously, as I settle into my abode.

She has such quiet ways and shy, this kind lady who leads me

To my simple little bedroom close to the family courtyard

And all the family members continue in their general ways

Allowing me to feel accepted as part of their family

And the courtesy, grace, natural goodness and delicacy

Of this humble Indian family so gentle and so good

Made me love them and this country of India which bred them

Endowed them with its ancient culture, wisdom and its life blood

I opened wide my heart and soul as making an offering

Seeking penetrate to know the beauty of India’s great heart

And I was led to an inner sanctuary where protected,

Finest remnants of its cultural habits remain secure

The wooing of my senses was successful! My soul surrendered

easily

I became one with the people on the city streets and in the country

huts

So many of the people were so attentive and endearing

I embraced in my heart the inspiration of their temples

And perfumed countryside embellished with exotic flowers

I loved the sacred cows, the incense of sandalwood

Charmed by their consideration of a sleeping dog

Lying unheeding in the centre of a busy traffic intersection

It was left undisturbed – the traffic directed around him!

The colourful, bejewelled ladies tinkling by with lyrical gait

With polite well spoken simple speech and charming gestures

They showed refinement, education, and a quality appealing

Far more charming, and many men nobler than their past English

lords

Their love of ritual and status showed in conversation with officials

In their quaint offices emulating those of old colonial rule

With legs sometimes placed deliberately, casually upon their desks,

Or in their smoking, in which showed mimicry of past habits of

those in authority

In their casual use of telephone and modern signs of “progress”

They would mimic the remnants left of British habits’ rule

I loved their innocence, naivety and love of showing so

honestly, that if

They had the latest, material luxury it must be displayed

If it was a heater, then it was set high heated to its maximum,

And if to cool, then icy it must the atmosphere become

Exaggerating all the delights of their technical fortune

They yet considered value of the smallest living thing as sacred

I found that, charmed by these sweet people

I must disengage my soul to flee its country

Else all my life here I’d live entrapped and entranced.

IN PRAISE OF THINGS I LOVE

The Earth…

Earth’s foundation – to earth itself

My love and enduring sense of satisfaction

Giver of form to everything we know and see

Springs Beauty from its Source into reflection.

Flowers…

I adore all flowers

Wild or cultivated – small or splendid

All flowers I love, for I believe

Each is a thought from God intended.

Skies…

I spread my soul in flight

When skies are blue and free, unclouded

They offer strength and peace, expansive

Skies comfort all with love blanketed

Oceans…

The primal waters

Which gave birth to all we know

Love and cherish here on the Earth

Our mystic Mother protects and helps us grow!

Trees…

I love them all

Their shapes and sizes, colours, character

They serve as friends to all requiring shelter

Man and beast, bird, every living creature.

God…

To the great one God

The Allness of all things in life

That which is with Nature clothed

Receives my total, deep soul’s adoration.

IN SILENCE

No word, no sound to break the silence of my inner mind

Faint echoes trembling, touch reaches of my halls of memory

Where secretly reside as true companions of my being

These, intimate creations of mine own intelligence

Their bright secret content pure, understood by only me,

Unscarred by abortive efforts to commune with others

Who may not be unkind but by unheeding word, hurt me

By not comprehending, nor sympathetic nor are they kind

They deny, ignore, scorn creations of my fond ideas

And thus injure my tender new-born thoughts, children of my mind,

In so-doing give pain, damage the sensitive nature

Of my mind itself -

Yea, receivers of one’s thoughts can prove unkind!

So, to the inner silence of my mind there I retire

Into safe and hallowed quietude of my inner thoughts

Where stately palaces, edifices, aspiring thoughts

Freely live and breath, exchanging, communing with Divine

My thoughts perceived, conceived by mine own pure spirit being

Through agency of love, through sharing mysteries of Space

With sky, sun, moon and stars as well as teachers of our race

I commune with That great Power that gives life birth, and Grace.

Seeking from that to transmit wealth of thought to earthly place

Thoughts enthusiastic, creative, constructive and clear

Fervent love of life blending with love of the human race

For those generous -

Yea, the givers of their thoughts do prove them kind!

With many mental children left bereft of human care

I would gladly choose to share your thoughts and should listen, kind

I ne’er would hurt infant ideas which venture forth from mind

But regard with value thoughts you communicate to me

I’d wish we could enrich each other thus by our ideas

Exchanging, growing, changing but alas, this will not be

It’s not by speech, or eagerness of intellect we share

But only by some inner silence – can I share with thee.

Hoping without friction a greater concept will appear

Over-riding all the differences, barriers of thought

Manifest as understanding in each of human kind

We all will evolve-

Yea, to the final Truth, found in the silence of each mind!

……………….

IS THERE NO ONE TO SHARE MY LOVE?

Is there no one here to share my love

Seeking inspiration from above

Who seeks live life simple, cultured, free

Is no one left to discriminate

Without neighbours to recriminate

Spoil expressions of integrity

Is there no one here to share my love

Of real friendship’s bond of hand in glove

Spirit innocent, generous, pure?

This world now discards truth and honour

A place where no one regards valour

Seeing man as same species as beast

Is there no one loves true refinement

Aim developing a cultured goal

In freedom to grow as ne’er before

Is there no one who shares my great love

Of everything here on this dear Earth

Specially sharing love of honest men

Now, we have traitors to our life cause

In crisis we have a chance to pause

We can resolve turn and re-create

Better life on earth for all to share

If we would consider and beware

Of pitfalls in human history

I know that many must share my love

But these people are unknown to me

And life for me has come to an end

If this world was one of bright glory

Our people with humane a story

I’d feel safe if the good earth buried me!

Elizabeth S.Adams has published works of her own such as “Forgotten Dreams – a collection of Poetry”,and essays on art and culture. She has a strong sense of romantic and is dedicated to classical values, idealism and the retention of past wisdom if we are to solve problems of the present.
We have ample proof that noise instead of harmony and quietude harms ear and brain and that classical music has a positive influence; that ugliness is a distortion and that on the other hand, beauty uplifts the soul to cure depression; that idealism encourages heroism and none would argue that romance is cherished in the hearts of us all.
The savage trends in opposition to old values have taken their toll and modern life offers us little inspiration.
Astrology offers many explanations and many positive indications for our personal and collective future and hope that new efforts will produce happier results in helping an advance in civilization for the future.
